Despite stepping down from their Royal duties, the Sussexes remained dedicated to championing the cause of helping the world. Philanthropy has been a core element of the Royal couple’s ethos. From organizing the Invictus Games for disabled veterans to making their wedding turn into a charity event, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have taken their commitment to helping others very seriously. In fact, the first step the Sussexes took after their infamous Megxit was to establish their non-profit organization, Archewell.

Over the years, the Archewell Foundation has taken several steps to uplift and unite communities across the world, including the ones in Nigeria. And recently, they joined hands with the GEANCO Foundation to further their commitment to the African country.

The Duke and the Duchess have always taken the initiative to help and support women around the world. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sussexes organized community services to help all the working women affected by the virus. The Archewell Foundation recently kicked off a new campaign for supporting girls’ education and healthcare. With students returning to classrooms in Nigeria, the Sussexes teamed up with the GEANCO Foundation to donate school supplies and feminine hygiene products.

The GEANCO Foundation aids young female victims of terrorism and gender prejudices in Nigeria and empowers them to foster a dignified life. Archewell Foundation will be spreading awareness of menstruation among young girls and will provide backpacks filled with menstrual essentials. The Sussexes’ Foundation will also provide free menstrual education to 2,500 girls in Nigeria to support their health and well-being. This initiative will also promote hygienic practices and reduce the risks of infections and other health complications.

Markle contributed generously to help Nigerians and provided them relief from the devastations of the flood. The Archewell Foundation made several donations to save the children in the African country who were at risk after the destructive flooding. Though the Duchess was always into philanthropy, helping Nigerians had a personal significance to her. The Suits star revealed her Nigerian roots last year on her podcast, Archetypes, when Ziwe Fumudoh joined her last year.

In the podcast, both Markle and Ziwe discussed the prejudices attached to women of color. They also discussed how one can solve the issue with global cooperation, which is one of the prominent aims of the Archewell Foundation. Amidst the conversation, Markle made the shocking revelation of her being  43 percent Nigerian. The 42-year-old did a genealogy test a couple of years ago and came across this information about her ethnicity. Considering her roots, it will not be surprising for her to engage in more charity work to protect the African land in the future.
