acquiring ownership of a historic football club to chronicling their venture in
a captivating docuseries, their latest project, Welcome to Wrexham, has been the
talk of the town. But what lies beneath the surface of this seemingly

narrative. It goes beyond the boundaries of a mere town and delves into
something far more profound. As the dust settles after their recent Critics
Choice Award win

see what the dynamic duo has to offer on the hidden narrative!

RYAN REYNOLDS CALLS WREXHAM A TOWN EMERGING FROM ADVERSITY

Wrexham, a town that experienced significant setbacks with core industries
vanishing, has faced its fair share of challenges. Despite the hardships, its
resilient residents have persevered, doing their best to rebuild their lives.
Reynolds highlighted a prevalent theme reflected in the faces, words, and
actions of the townspeople.

It was their unwavering determination to make the most out of difficult
circumstances. According to Reynolds, the football club serves as a vital
conduit. It symbolizes the town’s struggle to trust in something positive after
enduring prolonged adversity. It symbolizes the larger journey of a community
that has been battered yet still retains a glimmer of hope.

Reynolds told Variety
[https://variety.com/2023/tv/awards/ryan-reynolds-rob-mcelhenney-welcome-to-wrexham-season-2-1235647288/amp/],
“I think it’s less about a town emerging from the pandemic and more about a town
emerging from post-Thatcherism”.

Unveiling some behind the scenes further, McElhenney talks about the real deal
behind selecting the narratives.

SELECTING STORIES TO SCREEN, IN A TOWN FILLED WITH PASSION

In this series, we met a diverse array of individuals, some connected to the
club and many who aren’t. The question arises: How did the creators determine
which stories to focus on? As per McElhenney, field producers from Boardwalk
curated narratives with a journalistic approach. They immersed themselves in
conversations and captured the town’s love for the club.

It is remarkable how these stories seemed to emerge from every nook and cranny,
as if they were falling from trees. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, not
all of them could be included. Regardless of whether one’s allegiances lie with
McElhenney or Reynolds, it is nearly impossible not to develop an affinity for
the town itself.
