News of the actress' hospitalization dates back to late March, making the recent post all the more substantial.

It was in 2021 that Christina Applegate announced that she had been diagnosed with MS ( multiple sclerosis), an autoimmune condition that affects the brain and the spinal cord. She further elaborated on it in her memoir, You With the Sad Eyes that came out in March of this year and followed her hospitalization. Now, the actress is back home with a fresh hair colour and a strong message for fans.

"Love you and love to you all out there," Applegate wrote, thanking hairdresser David Stanwell and sending love to her fans.

Applegate's Instagram post also featured a mark on her cheek, which, although the actress addressed in her caption, she did not elaborate much on. While the exact cause of her hospitalization was not initially disclosed, Applegate later revealed on her MeSsy podcast that she had been dealing with a kidney infection, discussing the ordeal candidly from her hospital bed. Her doctors reportedly indicated the infection may have stemmed from an underlying issue she chose not to disclose.

The recent post by Christina Applegate is very on brand, given how the actress has ever since the announcement remained very candid about her struggles with MS.

While filming the last season of Dead to Me, Christina Applegate was diagnosed with MS. It was in 2021 that she publicly announced her diagnosis and has remained candid about it ever since. At one point, the actress even joked about it during the 2024 Emmy Awards. Christina Applegate received a standing ovation as she walked on stage, to which she grew emotional, and then completely changed the mood by remarking that it was as if they were showing off.

"You're totally shaming me with disability by standing up," Applegate said.

The actress has her own podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who was diagnosed with MS nearly two decades ago, titled MeSsy where they have guests over and touch upon every sector of life, ensuring that the podcast is not restricted to MS.

Through it all, the diagnosis, the hospital stays, the standing ovations she has learned to deflect with humor — Christina Applegate has made one thing clear: she is not interested in hiding the harder parts of her story.
