The 2026 Emmy Awards had plenty of television heavyweights commanding attention, but one major drama was conspicuously missing from the conversation. The Pitt dominated the night with 25 awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and a Lead Actor win for Noah Wyle. Hacks followed with 24 trophies, while Apple TV+ titles Widow’s Bay and Pluribus also secured major wins.
Yet Taylor Sheridan’s Landman was nowhere in the Emmy conversation, despite its place among television’s talked-about dramas. That glaring absence caught Stephen King’s attention, too.

The 2026 Emmy Awards may have had their winners, but Stephen King is questioning the Television Academy’s conspicuous snub of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman. Taking on X, the horror author wondered why the Paramount+ oil drama received zero nominations, particularly calling out Billy Bob Thornton for Best Actor and Stephen Kay for Best Director.
“Is it politics, or what?” Stephen King asked in his X post.
The omission is especially striking given Landman’s popularity and Paramount+’s extensive For Your Consideration campaign. The series drew more than nine million viewers for its season premiere, yet not one of its major stars earned an Emmy nomination. Billy Bob Thornton, Sam Elliott, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Demi Moore were all overlooked, leaving the acclaimed ensemble empty-handed.
Landman was not the only Taylor Sheridan production left out of the Emmy spotlight, with The Madison, Dutton Ranch, Marshals, 1923, and Tulsa King also missing from major categories. Sheridan has maintained that winning awards is not his primary goal, preferring to connect with audiences through his storytelling. Stephen King, however, has made it clear that the show’s complete awards-season blackout deserves an explanation.
While the Emmy snub stings, Landman still has reasons to celebrate with its cast getting raises for Season 3 and recognition elsewhere.
How Landman season 3 has done in other award shows
Landman may have received a cold shoulder from the 2026 Emmy Awards, but the Paramount+ drama found considerably warmer company elsewhere. Season 2 earned an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series nomination at the Actor Awards, alongside recognition for its stunt ensemble. Billy Bob Thornton also received a Critics Choice nomination for his performance as Tommy Norris, giving the show meaningful awards-season momentum.

The Academy of Country Music added another distinction by honoring Landman with an ACM Film Award during the 2026 ACM Honors in Nashville. These accolades highlighted the drama’s appeal across acting, television criticism, and country music culture, even as the Television Academy overlooked its entire major-category campaign. For a series celebrated elsewhere, the Emmys’ complete shutout was a particularly conspicuous snub.
