According to The Insneider, the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot will focus on Captain Jack Sparrow's son, promising a new generation and world order of eccentric pirates. In all probability, the movie will pivot around Margot Robbie in a refreshing new role.
Robbie most likely would shoulder the blockbuster franchise, which stands atop $4.5 billion at the global box office. Back in 2022, the Barbie star hinted at a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, fueling the reboot fire.
"We had an idea, and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led - not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story - which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it," she told Vanity Fair.
With a change of leadership at Disney, co-chairs Josh D'Amaro and Dana Walden, who is now in charge of film operations, the Pirates project is touted to reach high priority. Meanwhile, Oscar-nominated writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917) is being eyed to pen the script, per The Insneider.
However, the most heated discourse regarding the rumoured return of the original cast often zeroed in on Jack Sparrow, portrayed by Johnny Depp, who became the main character driving the franchise forward and establishing its cult status.
This overwhelming demand for Depp underscores reboot risks without him.
Is Johnny Depp returning as Captain Jack Sparrow?
There is no confirmation whether Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. However, Jerry Bruckheimer has openly stated that Depp’s door is not closed because if he appreciates how the part is written, he might take the wheel again.
"I think [Depp] would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page," the veteran producer told Entertainment Weekly.
