PewDiePie, or Felix Kjellberg, is a Swedish internet personality who became famous by creating content on YouTube. He was one of the early pioneers of gaming content on the platform, starting in 2010, and in a matter of just three years, he became the most-subscribed YouTuber on the platform, and held that title for over a decade. However, staying relevant through all these years was not easy for him, as he shifted focus to commentary, meme reviews, and later vlogs to keep his audience engaged.
Now, he has chosen to step away from family vlogging, prioritizing his 3-year-old son’s privacy.

In order to preserve their son Björn's privacy as he grows older, YouTube creator PewDiePie and his wife Marzia Kjellberg have announced that they will stop doing family vlogs later this year. PewDiePie revealed in his most recent video, "Ending the vlogs," which was posted on May 23, that the pair had made the decision to cease posting regular vlogs in September after spending over four years chronicling their lives in Japan.
“Now he’s 3 years old, and we feel like it’s a good time to end the vlogs. If he wants to be part of it, that should be his choice later,” PewDiePie said.
PewDiePie clarified that they no longer want the burden of consistently posting vlogs focused on family life, even though they would still occasionally post pictures or videos of Björn online. According to the YouTuber, the video series began just before the couple relocated to Japan with the goal of sharing their experience adjusting to a new nation.
However, the love that the videos received made them continue documenting their life in Japan for their audience. Further, in his final vlog, he expressed gratitude to the audience for their support of the vlog series over the years, claiming that it made the relocation to Japan feel less lonely. However, he affirmed that the life vlogs are now coming to an end.
This decision, though, is not something that came out of the blue and was sprung upon the audience.
A change that came steadily with time
In 2022, PewDiePie and his spouse, Marzia Kjellberg, moved to Japan, where they have mostly adopted a more sedate lifestyle than they did in the UK. His content changed during this time, moving from frequent uploads and gaming commentary to more introspective vlogs and updates with a lifestyle focus.

However, the balance between content creation and personal boundaries has grown increasingly apparent as his family life has changed, especially with the birth of his son. His recent vlogs signaled a shift from family content, and his latest vlog just made it official. It seems to be a good thing that the creator is prioritizing his son’s privacy over the views, considering how YouTube can be for young users.
