Peter Sarsgaard is set to join the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us, as per Deadline. He is best known for his roles in The Batman and The Bride!. The actor also earned Emmy nominations for his performances in the Hulu miniseries Dopesick and Presumed Innocent.

While many viewers are familiar with Sarsgaard, his character is reportedly a new addition created specifically for the series. As per sources, he will play Amon, who is one of the leaders of a religious faction, the Seraphites, within the franchise. The cult believes that the virus responsible for the disaster in the series is a form of divine punishment for mankind's sins.

The Seraphites were introduced in Season 2 and are expected to play a much larger role in Season 3. The upcoming season is also set to focus heavily on the journey of Abby, portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever. While Sarsgaard's casting is certainly exciting news for fans, there is also a disappointing update.
