After its run across several film festivals, Perfectly a Strangeness, directed by Alison McAlpine, became available to stream on Apple TV and Crave in Canada. However, the film has also been screened in theaters across the United States. Starting in March, the movie is also expected to be available on The Criterion Channel and Kanopy.

This Oscar-nominated film, Perfectly a Strangeness, follows three donkeys, Palaye, Ruperto, and Palomo, as they slowly travel across the mountains of Chile’s Atacama Desert. And during their quiet journey, the animals eventually stumble upon a mountaintop astronomical observatory. Shown through the perspective of the donkey, this film focuses on how they see the world, the stunning desert landscapes, and star-filled skies. At the same time, it also sparks humanity’s curiosity.

The power of the movie lies in its narrative, and that makes the film worthy of an Oscar nomination, much like other films. Now, while the concept is unique and refreshing for the viewers, the director, Alison McAlpine, admitted that the idea initially felt like a mad concept to her. But there was something that encouraged her to move ahead with this mad idea.

She spoke about what convinced her during one of her interviews.
