The creative foundation and historical inspiration behind The Black Ball

The highly anticipated film is directed by the visionary filmmaking duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi. The narrative masterfully explores the complex history of global LGBTQ+ rights and queer existence across multiple distinct historical eras. It weaves together the deeply emotional lives of three separate men.

The underlying plot draws heavy inspiration from an unfinished work by legendary author Federico García Lorca. The title refers to a symbolic method used to reject a gay man from entering a social club. The extensive project is produced as a major collaborative effort between several prominent European studios. The impressive lineup includes breakout musician Guitarricadelafuente, making his feature acting debut alongside co-star Carlos González.
