During an appearance on the Spanish-language podcast La Pija y la Quinqui, Pedro Almodóvar was asked about whether he would be interested in casting Jacob Elordi in his future project. In response, the director explained that while the Oscar-nominated actor is indeed set to become one of the big names in Hollywood, his acting potential has not yet been explored.
“I’ve been wondering whether he’s just a s** symbol or a respected actor,” Almodóvar said, as per English translation.

Almodóvar further went on to talk about Elordi's previous films, including Wuthering Heights and Frankenstein, which gained massive appreciation. He called Wuthering Heights “bad” but explained that neither Margot Robbie nor Elordi was at fault. As for Frankenstein, he explained that Elordi’s character was not challenging, and it relied more on style rather than complex acting. So, he believes that Elordi is yet to perform in roles where he has stretched to his full potential.
“We need to see him — or at least I do — in another role that demands more of him,” he said.
While Elordi clearly continues to explore nuanced roles, such as in Salt Burn and Priscilla, he showed a spectacular performance in the series, The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
Jacob Elordi is brilliant in The Narrow Road to the Deep North
The Narrow Road to the Deep North is based on Richard Flanagan’s novel with the same name. This film looks into three crucial periods of the life of Australian doctor and World War II hero, Dorrigo Evans. And Jacob Elordi, as the young version of Evan, brilliantly shows the tension and internal turmoil that the character undergoes.

The character's past love affair with his uncle’s young wife, Amy, troubles him throughout his time in a Thai-Burmese prisoner of war camp in WWII in the 5-part miniseries. Elordi shows the physical mannerisms of Ciaran Hinds, who plays the older version of the character, which brings more depth to the character. Now, even if Elordi has yet to prove his true potential, he is incredible in The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which is worth watching.
