For years, stories about Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev's off-screen dynamic fascinated The Vampire Diaries fans almost as much as the love triangle that unfolded on screen. While the actors have openly acknowledged they did not always see eye to eye during the early days of filming, their relationship eventually took a very different turn.

Now, Wesley is reflecting on how time reshaped that bond, revealing how what began as an unlikely friendship has led to an exciting new collaboration that brings the former co-stars back together years after saying goodbye to Mystic Falls.

Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Paul Wesley addressed the much-discussed tension he once shared with Nina Dobrev, explaining that their rocky start is no secret. He noted that both of them have spoken about it publicly over the years, adding that today they are "such good friends" and that he "absolutely adore[s]" her. The actor revealed that their reunion did not happen overnight. Instead, the pair stayed in touch after The Vampire Diaries ended and repeatedly discussed finding another project together.

"We kept saying, 'We should do something... Let's make it special,'" Wesley recalled. "Then we would not talk about it for two years... until finally You Deserve to Know came about and we're like, 'This is it. Let's do this,'" he said on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

Paul Wesley also emphasized on the Call Her Daddy podcast that their friendship developed gradually rather than through a single defining moment. As the years passed, the former co-stars continued to cross paths, stayed in touch, and found themselves naturally rebuilding the connection that had once seemed unlikely.

Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev are set to portray Scott and Gwen, neighbors who become involved in the investigation from opposing perspectives as the mystery deepens. In addition to starring, Dobrev will executive produce the series alongside Alex Cooper's Unwell Productions, Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment, and Thompson.
