Marvel has a cruel habit of letting its couples find happiness only to snatch it away, and Wanda Maximoff and Vision have suffered some of the franchise’s most devastating losses. Tony Stark died after finally building a family with Pepper Potts, Peter Parker sacrificed his relationship with MJ, and Jane Foster succumbed to cancer after reconnecting with Thor. Yet even with Wanda absent from Vision’s upcoming story, Paul Bettany has made it clear that her importance to Vision will always remain.
With VisionQuest bringing the synthezoid back into focus, Bettany is reminding Marvel fans that some bonds survive even the MCU’s cruelest heartbreaks.
Paul Bettany is crystal clear about Wanda's importance to Vision
Marvel may be notorious for putting its couples through emotional hell, but Wanda Maximoff and Vision have a bond that even death has struggled to erase. Speaking to Buro 24/7, Paul Bettany and Ruaridh Mollica discussed how Wanda’s absence continues to shape Vision and Tommy, with Bettany explaining why the Scarlet Witch remains central to his character’s understanding of humanity.
“It’s hard for me to imagine Vision without Wanda,” he said.
Their last goodbye in WandaVision saw the magical Vision and their twin sons fade away as Wanda dismantled the Hex in Westview. Before disappearing, Vision asked what they would be next, and Wanda promised they had been before and would say hello again. That farewell still looms large over VisionQuest, where her emotional presence may outlast her physical absence.

Mollica, meanwhile, described to Buro 24/7 about discovering his on-screen mother through Vision’s memories and love for her, calling the experience beautiful. The actor explained that Tommy carries memories of Wanda while learning about her through his father’s perspective, giving the family dynamic a poignant new dimension. For Bettany, however, one thing remains certain: Wanda will always be part of Vision’s world.
With Robert Downey Jr. and Paul Bettany reuniting in a sort of father-son reunion, one cannot help but wonder if Marvel might finally let Wanda and Vision have their own long-overdue reunion.
Could Wanda and Vision reunite in Avengers: Doomsday?
Marvel may have spent years keeping Wanda Maximoff and Vision apart, but Avengers: Doomsday could finally give the star-crossed couple a chance to reunite. The pieces are certainly intriguing: VisionQuest continues the story of White Vision and Wanda’s twin sons, Billy and Tommy, while Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., could connect the family drama to the larger Avengers conflict.

The comic book storyline Avengers: The Children’s Crusade offers another tantalizing clue, with Wanda found in Latveria and entangled with Doctor Doom. Although Marvel has not confirmed that it will adapt this plot or bring Elizabeth Olsen back in Doomsday, the combination of VisionQuest, Doom, and the unfinished Maximoff family story makes a reunion plausible.
