Getting back to zero gave him a sense of liberation, and he felt that whether the show succeeded or not, he could no longer be held back by that weight; he was out of debt with no take-backsies.

'I remember being like, Man, if this show works, great. If it doesn’t work, they can’t take that away from me. I am out of debt. No take-backsies on that. Ball told Cultured. 

The actor recently also revealed that six months before The Pitt, he was living in New Haven with his ex, grappling with an unpredictable acting career and financial uncertainty. During that turbulent period, he even considered leaving the industry entirely, weighing options like joining the FBI or working at a fishing camp in Alaska.
