Mikey Madison opened up about not being on social media and why she plans to keep it that way. The Oscar-winning actress left social media from the moment she launched her professional acting career in 2013. Her long-forgotten Instagram profile has remained untouched for over a decade. It may have given her the kind of rare, old-school Hollywood mystique that stars once had, but that was never the whole point.

Madison recently shared that she avoids social media mainly to protect herself from the pressure that comes with it.

In a video shared by Pop Faction, Mikey Madison finally answered the long-standing question of why she stays away from social media. According to the actress, it simply is not something she feels connected to.

"I’m grateful I didn’t because I think it would have been completely overwhelming and destructive to me," she said. 

Madison explained that social media looked very different when she was growing up, and she considers herself lucky to have avoided the invasive content and algorithm-driven echo chambers that exist today.

"I’ve been asked about this a lot, and it’s never been something that felt, like, comfortable or authentic to me," Madison said in the video. Ironically, the actress is about to star as a real-life Facebook whistleblower in her upcoming project.

Mikey Madison will be taking on the role of Frances Haugen in the film The Social Reckoning.

Aaron Sorkin's upcoming dramatic thriller The Social Reckoning will see Mikey Madison as the real-life Facebook data scientist, Frances Haugen. Madison’s character puts her career on the line after discovering some of Facebook’s most guarded secrets. She then sets out to expose the company’s hidden data, questionable ethics, and transparency failures. 

Madison is joined by Jeremy Strong, who steps into the role of Mark Zuckerberg, famously played by Jesse Eisenberg, who does not want to act in the franchise again. Jeremy Allen White, meanwhile, portrays Wall Street Journal investigative reporter Jeff Horwitz, who helps coordinate the leak of the company’s internal documents.  

Madison’s character, Frances Haugen, worked from the inside to push platforms like Facebook toward greater safety for young people. In her personal life, however, Madison has taken the opposite approach by avoiding social media altogether.
