Black-and-white smoke-filled jazz bars, a brooding detective haunted by his dead wife, and a web-slinger steeped in 1940s noir mystery defined Spider-Noir. Nicolas Cage delivered one of the most distinctive renditions of the character, channeling the spirit of Humphrey Bogart and classic noir cinema while infusing the Marvel creation with pop-art flair.

The series earned 11 Emmy nominations, the most for any Prime Video series in 2026. Yet despite its acclaim, the show was canceled after a single season.

Now, Nicolas Cage has finally spoken about the decision.

In a statement to Deadline, Nicolas Cage expressed contentment with the series having one season. His response presents the first season as a complete creative experience and reflects his satisfaction with the direction the production ultimately took. He said.

“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man. Onwards, upwards, inwards.” 

The actor told Deadline that he drew inspiration from classic film noir, studying Howard Hawks pictures and Double Indemnity to shape his portrayal. He described his approach to Deadline as an effort to merge 1930s and 1940s acting styles with Spider-Man's iconic essence, creating something akin to a Roy Lichtenstein painting.

Though Spider-Noir will not continue, Cage remains active with Prime Video, starring in the upcoming film Madden. His response to the cancellation underscores a focus on artistic fulfillment over commercial longevity.

Although Prime Video has ended the series, Cage still has another major project connected to a beloved franchise. That brings him back to a character audiences have been waiting years to see again.

Nicolas Cage could soon return as Benjamin Franklin Gates in National Treasure 3. Director Jon Turteltaub announced in August 2026 that the long-discussed third film is finally moving forward. During a live recording of the National Treasure Hunt podcast in Philadelphia, Turteltaub said the project is “finally real” and revealed that the team has a script he likes, while Disney has indicated that it sees a viable movie in the screenplay.

Cage is expected to return as Benjamin Gates, the historian and treasure hunter introduced in the 2004 film National Treasure.  Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Sean Bean and Harvey Keitel remain associated with the original franchise, although no official full cast announcement has been made for the third movie.

The project has no release date yet, but its progress gives Cage another franchise opportunity after his singular run as Spider-Noir. For fans, the prospect of Ben Gates returning offers a completely different kind of adventure, built around historical puzzles, hidden clues and another long-awaited hunt for treasure.
