The Ocean’s Eleven franchise is opening a new chapter, taking audiences back to a time long before the legendary heists that made the series a Hollywood favorite. The highly anticipated prequel has now entered production, with the first glimpse from the set already giving fans plenty to speculate about. And this time, the story is digging into a part of the Ocean family history that has never been explored on screen.
But the first look has revealed far more than just another glamorous heist in the making.
Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper is set to lead Ocean’s Eleven Prequel
Production is officially underway in Paris, with Margot Robbie, Bradley Cooper, and Monica Barbaro spotted on the set of the untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel, as revealed by Entertainment Tonight. The film is shaping up as a stylish 1960s period heist, with Robbie channeling Audrey Hepburn-inspired glamour in tailored looks, vintage accessories, and a wide-brimmed hat, while Barbaro was seen in a striking teal pencil-skirt suit. Cooper is also directing the movie while starring in it, making the project a particularly ambitious addition to the franchise.

With the Entertainment Tonight first-look revelation, the prequel is set in 1962 and will explore the origins of Danny Ocean’s family, with Margot Robbie and Cooper playing his parents. The story follows the pair as they plan a major heist against the backdrop of the Monaco Grand Prix, with the action moving across Paris, Nice, and Monaco. The ensemble also includes Wagner Moura, Omar Sy, Josh Gad, Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Lauren Ridloff, and Jack Holden.
But before this new generation steps into the Ocean family legacy, though, there is one heist story that changed the franchise forever.
How Ocean’s Eleven became a modern heist classic?
Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven transformed the classic 1960 Rat Pack movie into a slick, star-powered heist thriller. George Clooney led the remake as Danny Ocean, assembling a crew that included Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Andy García, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Carl Reiner, and Qin Shaobo. The story followed Danny as he brought together an elite team to rob the vault beneath three Las Vegas casinos owned by Terry Benedict.
The remake became a major commercial hit, earning around $450.7 million worldwide and spawning Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, followed by the 2018 spin-off Ocean’s 8. Now, the franchise is expanding in both directions, with the prequel exploring the Ocean family’s past while George Clooney is also preparing for Ocean’s 14, which is expected to reunite him with original franchise stars Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts.
Thus, with its period setting, glamorous cast, and high-stakes heist at the center, the franchise is once again preparing to play its biggest card.
