In a Variety interview published on December 30, George Clooney revealed Ocean's 14 to be in the works with the old cast but a new approach. Rather than relying on nostalgia, he said he wants to explore what it is like to pull off a heist when Danny and his team are older. Inspired by the 1970s comedy Going in Style, Clooney enlisted Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle to return as aged gang members.

George Clooney, in his Variety conversation, added that the idea of having older crew members appeals to him because they may have lost a step but still have the smarts to succeed. While Steven Soderbergh will not direct, David Leitch, known for Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train, is in talks to helm Ocean's 14. With Clooney's revelation of Going in Style inspiring him, meanwhile, it is essential to explore what that movie was about.

The 1979 film aligns perfectly with Clooney’s idea for Ocean's 14 with elderly criminals at the heart of the storyline.

Going in Style — Its plot explored

Going in Style follows three senior citizens — Joe, Al, and Willie — who are bored with their quiet lives in Queens, New York. To add excitement, Joe suggests that they rob a bank despite having no criminal experience.

They disguise themselves and successfully steal about $35,000. The heist energizes them, but the aftermath brings unexpected events, including demises.
