Callina Liang has recalled the Reddit criticism over her Chun-Li casting in the Street Fighter movie. Liang landed one of gaming’s most recognizable roles, and the internet wasted no time offering opinions about it. The film reaches theaters this Friday, October 16, which means the actress finally gets to answer the crowd with her work. Her reaction to that early noise turned out to be surprisingly honest and very good-humored.

While casting news usually earns confetti, hers earned a very specific comment about thigh size, and she remembers the wording.

The day after her casting as Chun-Li in Street Fighter was revealed, Callina Liang came across a Reddit thread criticizing her thighs for not matching the iconic video game character’s. Despite the online criticism, Liang said she wanted to give the role her all and have zero regrets, knowing she had done everything possible to bring the character fans envisioned to life.

“There was this Reddit thread: ‘Callina Liang’s thighs are nowhere as big as Chun-Li’s,’” she told IGN, laughing.

“As a huge fan myself, I would want whoever plays Chun-Li to be what I envision her to be in my head,” she added.

Liang had only two months to prepare, according to IGN, so she kept her goals realistic enough to still act on set. Training covered Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and Wushu for two hours daily, plus leg strength work. Her diet included 12 eggs a day and a meal every two hours, reaching nearly 4,000 calories at times. Each thigh grew 6.5 cm, and her stunt double wore butt pads to match.

Eric André gets a reply to his 2010 Chun-Li wish ahead of Street Fighter

Eric André posted on X in July 2010 that he wished Chun-Li were real, and sixteen years later Callina Liang played her. Liang learned about the post only through an IGN clip, which explained her fresh and playful reaction. In the clip, she said she would approach André that night and tell him she had seen the X post and was finally here. She also said she would ask why he had stayed silent, since she had been real the whole time.

André plays Don Sauvage in the film by director Kitao Sakurai, set in 1993 around estranged fighters Ryu and Ken. Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo play that pair, with Jason Momoa as Blanka and Roman Reigns as Akuma. Sakurai told MovieWeb that sequel ideas are being developed, though Paramount and Legendary have not ordered one. Sequel talks can wait, because André has a post to explain, and Liang arrives with a leg day no Reddit thread can argue with.
