In the world of entertainment, one thing is constant – change. The ever-changing landscape is as thriving as it is competitive. An opportunity for one is a snub for another and it effectively stands true, even if one happened to be one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. The notion stood true when the newly appointed DC co-chief, James Gunn, replaced Henry Cavill with David Corenswet alongside a freshly rebooted storyline with Superman: Legacy. Months down the line, setting aside the furor, fans can now see the why behind the move.
In the nearly nine years that Cavill helmed the red cape, a divisive approach followed. While there was much debate on Zack Snyder’s choice of a grim take, there was no denying that the British actor’s charisma peaked through the screen. Looking to eke out a similar mettle, Corenswet is leaving no stone unturned. The resemblance is uncanny in a recently surfaced photo on X (formerly Twitter).

A couple of months ago, a buffed-up David Corenswet took the Internet by storm. The photographs highlighted an unbelievable transformation of the 30-year-old actor that left him resembling Cavill’s magnificent stature. The same once again accounts for this photo, except that, at first glance, one deems to be forgiven for mistaking him for his Superman predecessor. Wearing a cap, the new DC Superman eerily resembled Henry Cavill from a Man of Steel scene, coming across as near-identical.
The successor also boasts several other similarities. Both the actors command a chiseled jawline, deep, thoughtful eyes, dark hair, and now, a similar stature. Interestingly, Corenswet is also three inches taller at 6’4″ than Cavill at 6’1″. Yet, all blow out the water, with the latest photo highlighting an eerily similar face.
Judging by the reactions, fans are as much in awe and disbelief as in the mood to question James Gunn’s choice.
Fans wonder why Henry Cavill was recast for Superman: Legacy after all
James Gunn threw himself into the ring of fire when he justified replacing Henry Cavill with David Corenswet. The director’s ‘excuse’ of a “younger actor” brought him into the firing line of fans’ angst. However, months down the line, fans wonder if it was necessary given that Corenswet is essentially turning into a Henry Cavill manifestation. From his uncanny resemblance in looks and stature to a similar diet and workout regimen, fans all but ponder.
No disrespect to David, but Gunn clearly wanted Henry without using Henry

On the bright side of things, Superman: Legacy will still keep its date of 11 July 2025. Notwithstanding the twin strikes, James Gunn is still on track to deliver. The movie would be a lighter take than Snyder’s while keeping the character in line with modern standards of filmmaking. Additionally, with a 10-year framework in mind, Gunn might finally be en route to tackle the MCU.
