Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Anna Faris have laid out the secret elements that make up a perfect parody, which are: paying homage, not trashing on the film you are parodying, and creating something that even those being parodied could have a good laugh at. After a wait of thirteen years, the Wayans brothers are back with Scary Movie 6, which will attempt to jumpstart a franchise that has long sent the audience rolling in the aisles with the most absurd comedic takes on the conventional and contemporary horror tropes.

The teaser for the upcoming movie reassures the viewers that the franchise is staying true to its hallmark parody paradigm that takes several of the popular horror movies of the time and turns them into funny sketches.

However, it is not as easy as it sounds, and in a recent interview, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Anna Faris shared their secrets to the perfect parody. 

Some of the cast members of Scary Movie 6 - Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Anna Faris - appeared in an interview by Fandango where they talked about their whole experience with the Scary Movie franchise from the beginning to now, with the new movie coming out. During the interview, they were asked if they had ever been approached by a celebrity whose movie they had parodied.

Marlon Wayans answered by saying that most people have approached them out of love and the feeling that they felt flattered seeing their movie being parodied. He even revealed that Jordan Peele once asked him if he was going to parody his movie next. According to the actor, there is a certain way to do a good parody.

“It's paying homage. It's like we're not there to bash it. You're there to send it up in a way that even they can laugh at it,” said Marlon Wayans.

Marlon Wayans also talked about his experience watching horror movies, where he constantly thinks of something funny he could extract from them and use it in his own work. However, it does take away from the movie experience, as pointed out by the actor, making him feel like he is always working. On the contrary, Shawn Wayans just tries to enjoy the movies, and if something funny comes up, it comes up naturally to him.

While talking about the parodying of contemporary horror films, they talked about Sinners and how they might have fit it into Scary Movie 6.

Marlon Wayans reveals that after watching Sinners, he and his brother Shawn Wayans thought that it should be in the movie. They contemplated some ideas to fit the movie and ultimately found a way to incorporate it with Ray, the character that Shawn Wayans plays in the movie.

But the Ryan Coogler Oscar-nominated horror is not the only film parodied by Scary Movie 6. Scream VI, M3GAN, Wednesday, Ma, Sinners, Get Out, Smile, Weapons, Longlegs, The Substance, and Terrifier are just some of the movies referenced in the teaser of the latest addition to the Scary Movie franchise. All of these legendary entries in the genre of scares and shivers will now be churned under the Wayans brothers' wheel of the best parody.
