Noah Wyle has made a career out of saving lives on screen, but in The Pitt, he has been stealing hearts instead. As Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, the actor has brought audiences back to the hospital drama in a big way, earning back-to-back Primetime Emmy Awards in 2025 and 2026. Now, People Magazine has crowned Wyle its 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, proving his latest heartthrob status is no medical emergency.

Decades after ER made him a household name as Dr. John Carter, Wyle has found a new generation of fans, and apparently, they are all checking his vitals.

Noah Wyle has spent years making hospital corridors look good, but PEOPLE has decided the doctor deserves a little attention outside the emergency department. On October 27, the 55-year-old The Pitt star was named the 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, taking over from Jonathan Bailey. Wyle, however, initially thought the announcement was a prank and said he never saw it coming.

His wife, Sara Wells, took the news rather better than her famously unsuspecting husband. She joked that the honor reflected beautifully on her taste, which is one way to enjoy a husband's new distinction. Wyle's children, meanwhile, are apparently preparing to bring him back down to earth with a healthy dose of teasing.

The timing could hardly be more fitting for Wyle, whose career has found fresh momentum through The Pitt. The actor stars as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch while also writing and executive producing the medical drama. After collecting back-to-back Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, he now has PEOPLE confirming what his fans already suspected.

Wyle is not just another charming ER alum in the George Clooney mould; PEOPLE had plenty of other reasons to hand him the crown and its not his hilarious reaction to Donnie Darko.

What actually helped Noah Wyle to win the race

Wyle has plenty going for him beyond his on-screen charm, and his work away from Hollywood gives PEOPLE another reason to celebrate him. Through the Noah Wyle Foundation, launched in October 2022, the actor supports underserved communities, with a particular focus on youth mental health and food insecurity. The foundation has distributed more than $2 million in community grants.

His commitment to helping others extends beyond his own foundation, too. In March 2026, Wyle received the Giving New Hope Award from the Children’s Burn Foundation for his support of healthcare and child burn survivors. Whether raising $36,000 for autism support through a charity auction or advocating for medical workers, Wyle has shown that his appeal goes beyond playing a compassionate doctor on The Pitt. PEOPLE may have crowned a heartthrob, but his work off screen gives the title added substance.
