It is a good time to be a Green Day fan, with several surprises coming from the rock band. Earlier this year, the band extended its 2026 European tour to Germany. The group performed across cities like Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg through June 2026, entertaining rock music fans with its electric, high-energy performances.

And now, Green Day fans have another treat this year with the film Nimrods, inspired by the band. Although it is not a musical, the comedy film explores a crucial part of the band’s early years, making it one to keep on the radar. So, here is everything to know about the movie’s release date and streaming options.

How to watch Nimrods in 2026?

Nimrods is a coming-of-age road comedy film that premiered on August 14, 2026. It is currently playing in theaters. As of now, there is no information from Inaugural Entertainment about when or where the film will be available on streaming platforms. The film originally premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival under its original title, New Year’s Rev.

It is a punk road movie inspired by the famous rock band Green Day and their days living in a tour van. But rather than retelling Green Day’s journey to fame, Nimrods borrows from the band’s early days to create its own unruly road-trip adventure. The film follows a group of three friends who set out on a cross-country road trip to Los Angeles after falsely believing that their band has been invited to open for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve show.

The film explores the misadventures of the musical trio. The movie's title is also named after the band’s 1997 Billboard 200 top-10 album, Nimrod. Moreover, the band members, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, also produced the film.
