Anyone who has watched Big Little Lies knows the tension on screen was impossible to ignore. The violence, trauma, and the suffocating pressure on screen were palpable, but it seems a bit of pressure existed off-screen as well. Nicole Kidman, who played Celeste in the show, had a very specific instruction for her co-star Alexander Skarsgård before certain scenes were filmed.

Nearly six years after the second season aired and with whispers of a third still circulating, Kidman recently revisited the memory while candidly discussing one of her biggest pet peeves. 

Nicole Kidman was quite clear about her request to her co-star Alexander Skarsgård during the filming of Big Little Lies. During her recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast (March 11), Kidman recalled that she urged Skarsgård to put his falafel sandwich away before their kissing scenes. The actress explained that she is quite sensitive to smells, but her demand was also more of a basic on-set etiquette.

“When Alexander Skarsgård ate a falafel sandwich before we did the scenes in Big Little Lies. I’m like, ‘No, no, no, Alex. I’m meant to be kissing you and into you. Put away the falafel. Now,’” Kidman said.

The memory from Big Little Lies resurfaced when Kidman was discussing one of her biggest turn-offs, which is bad breath. The actress, who recently starred in Scarpetta, explained that she has a particularly heightened sense of smell, joking that she was almost relieved when she temporarily lost it during COVID. In any case, Kidman admitted that unpleasant breath is an ultimate dealbreaker for her.

“If I say, ‘Breathe on me,’ and I have to recoil?” she continued. “Yikes, I’m out. I am out.”

While she shared how bad smells ick her, there is one person who will never have to worry about it while meeting the actress. And that person is pop queen Rihanna.

After Nicole Kidman revealed how much bad breath puts her off, she was asked about the best-smelling celebrity she has met. Kidman was quick to name Rihanna. She even described the singer’s perfume as intoxicating.

“Just know it’s all true. It’s intoxicating. It is like, ‘I will follow you around,'” Kidman said of Rihanna’s perfume.

Kidman had only echoed what many celebrities have said before. Stars like Lil Nas X, Cardi B, Olly Alexander, and Jennifer Lawrence have all previously gushed over how good Rihanna smells. While the exact perfume she wears remains unconfirmed, she has often been rumored to prefer Love, Don't Be Shy after one of her friends hinted at it. Clearly, the right fragrance is a good investment for making an impact, especially for Nicole Kidman.
