James Marsden recently sat down with Empire magazine for a conversation about his upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. The actor opened up about the scale of the highly anticipated crossover, which brings together characters and franchises from across Marvel’s multiverse. He further promised that the same old X-Men characters whom fans have seen in the past are returning for the film with new motivations.

“It’s an absolute collision of three gigantic universes, coming together in the face of a very serious existential threat,” Marsden said about the X-Men characters. “You’re seeing time on screen. You’re seeing these characters from 27 years ago, in new costumes with new intentions and intensities."

Marsden may have hinted that fans could see an entirely different side of the heroes they thought they knew. Alongside Cyclops, the film is set to feature several familiar X-Men characters, including Gambit, Charles Xavier, Magneto, Beast, and Mystique. While the confirmed cast has already sparked plenty of conversation among fans, there is also plenty of speculation surrounding the film’s rumored surprise appearances.

Joe Russo has some important advice for fans before they watch Avengers: Doomsday. During a red carpet interview with Fandango at Comic-Con, Joe Russo spoke about the upcoming movie and suggested that fans should watch Avengers: Endgame Encore before watching Avengers: Doomsday in December this year. Avengers: Endgame Encore is a rerelease of Avengers: Endgame, which will help viewers to understand the upcoming movie.

“Two, I think it’s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday,” he said.

The new rerelease includes a few minutes of additional footage, a custom introduction, and a post-credits scene that will serve as a lead-up to the Avengers: Doomsday movie. Marvel Studios has also released a new trailer to announce the news. It seems there is much to do before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters.
