Nationwide Anti-ICE Action Reaches TV Sets, Temporarily Stopping Grey’s Anatomy Production

Published 01/30/2026, 4:38 AM EST

This weekend is set to be crucial with anti-ICE advocates calling for a nationwide shutdown across the communities on January 30 and 31. This follows the incident involving the killing of Alex Pretti by ICE, with a nationwide day of no school, no work, and no shopping. And it seems Grey’s Anatomy, which is filming for the 22nd season of the show, has not remained unaffected.

The production of the long-running, popular American prime-time television medical drama might be put on hold as per the nationwide call.

A wave of planned nationwide anti-ICE protests has reached the TV show sets, too. As per Deadline, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is pausing production on Jan. 30. This was after the crew members said they would not show up amid the call for a national shutdown. While there is no update, the show could resume work on January 31.

This initiative, started by the University of Minnesota student groups, has continued to spread and reach several across the nation. Ariana Grande, Pedro Pascal, and several others have shown their support on social media. While the temporary pause is unlikely to affect the production run or release, there is no official information on this.

So, the unexpected twists, challenges, complications, and drama are not likely to stop. There are still 10 episodes remaining of the intense medical drama and personal conflicts, and with the hope for the show to return to filming soon, a pause in streaming is unlikely. While filming on Grey’s Anatomy may briefly pause, viewers still have plenty of episodes to stream in the meantime.
