The Graham Norton Show just got its first royal guest as the Prince of Wales made his debut to talk about the Earthshot Prize. The show, which has been running since 2007, has welcomed several guests, from Hollywood stars to singers and artists. The special edition for the Earthshot Prize also saw Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin, and Hannah Waddingham join the show.

Later, Prince William also appeared to surprise the audience in the pre-recorded episode. And he had plenty to talk about, including the inspiration behind the Earthshot Prize.

Prince William set up the Earthshot Prize in 2020 and has continued his efforts to make a change. It was inspired by US President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot project, but there is much more to his goals for this honor. The Prince of Wales opened up about how, when he started learning about several stories of environmental issues, he noticed a lack of hope among people.

"I thought we could do something more powerful and more optimistic and the idea of an awards ceremony came about, and we could talk about urgency and optimism together,” he said.

The Prince opened up about how there are several individuals as well as organizations that are making incredible efforts to protect the environment, and they should be honored. The award is given for five Earthshots which are Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate, with each winner receiving £1 million. This year’s winners will be announced at an event in Mumbai on November 17, 2026.

Before his appearance, Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin, and Hannah Waddingham were in attendance, speaking about the prize. While Blanchett is an Earthshot Prize Council Member, Irwin is an Earthshot Prize Global Ambassador. Waddingham hosted the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards in Singapore.

Apart from his Earthshot Prize, Prince William also spoke about his love for Christopher Nolan’s films.

Christopher Nolan’s films are admired by a long list of celebrities, actors, and directors. And that also includes the Prince of Wales. Prince William revealed that he is a fan of the director’s films and praised how the concepts are psychologically deep and dark.

"He takes concepts that are completely out there and makes them incredibly entertaining,” he said.

The Prince further revealed that the family is also obsessed with The Celebrity Traitors. He added that Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are huge fans of the show. Prince William’s appearance on the show is quite a surprise and certainly packed with fascinatindetails.
