Tom Hardy has been dropped from the Paramount+ flagship drama, MobLand, ahead of its third season. When a Hollywood powerhouse clashes with television royalty, the fallout can completely reshape a hit series. Hardy anchored the show during its first two seasons as Harry Da Souza, a gritty lead fixer operating within a dangerous underworld. His intense performance drove the initial narrative before major casting shifts altered the dynamic of the show.

The sudden departure of the leading man has left fans questioning the future of the series.

According to Puck News' Matthew Belloni, Paramount recently opted not to pick up Tom Hardy for MobLand season 3 after his intense clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. The actor was repeatedly late to the set, constantly demanded script rewrites, and openly expressed his displeasure regarding the narrative direction. He reportedly disliked that a series initially built around his character was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase for co-stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.

The backstage tension reached a breaking point when Butterworth threatened to exit the production entirely. Paramount executives responded by dropping Hardy instead of risking the loss of their primary creative showrunner. Although his contract contained a mutual option for the third season, the studio made the definitive choice to move forward without his involvement.

This behaviour mirrors past allegations from previous sets, including Mad Max: Fury Road, where punctuality issues caused a rift with Charlize Theron. Furthermore, director John Hillcoat previously confirmed that Hardy and co-star Shia LaBeouf engaged in a physical altercation on the set of Lawless

Tom Hardy's upcoming projects and thrillers

Tom Hardy will next star alongside Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali in the crime thriller 77 Blackout, which is currently in pre-production. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, the film takes place during the historic 1977 New York City blackout. The plot follows five rogue police officers who orchestrate a plan to rob three distinct criminal strongholds simultaneously under the cover of darkness.

Beyond this project, the actor remains deeply involved in international cinema, including an upcoming feature film (untitled) directed by Sean Penn. Production for the Penn project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026. Additionally, Hardy is attached to a new animated Venom film for Sony Pictures Animation, serving behind the scenes as a producer.
