The tiny yellow troublemakers are finally heading back to the big screen, and this time, the stakes are even bigger, with more chaos and even monsters. Two years after they were last seen in Despicable Me 4, and now, the third prequel Minions film, officially titled Minions & Monsters, is set to arrive this year. And the first look at the Minions stirring up fresh mischief and mayhem dropped during the Super Bowl 2026 on February 8. 

With new characters, bigger threats, and plenty of chaos in store, here is everything to know about the film’s plot and cast.

The banana-loving Minions were first introduced in the Despicable Me franchise and quickly became fan favorites and a box office hit. Pierre Coffin, who is the voice behind the Minions, has returned to lend his voice for this movie too. He is also the sole-credited director of the movie this time. 

Now, the fan favorite Minions, Stuart, Kevin, and Bob, who were the stars of the first Minions movie, are not expected to return. However, it might be too soon to make a claim. There is still much time left before the release of the movie this year.

After its much-awaited trailer drop in February, Minions & Monsters is set for its theatrical release on July 1 this year. The film is the third installment in the Minions prequel series and the seventh movie overall in the Despicable Me franchise, further expanding the popular universe. 

As for the film’s box office potential, the Minions movies have so far enjoyed massive success. The 2022 Minions: The Rise of Gru grossed an impressive $937.7 million worldwide. As for the Despicable movies, it was a big hit on Netflix before their departure in 2025. If that is any indication, the third installment could also turn out to be a major hit.

For now, there is plenty of hype surrounding Minions & Monsters, which is set to take over Hollywood.

The first trailer of Minions & Monsters shows the tiny yellow ones trying to take over Hollywood to become movie stars, and at first, things seem to be going well. However, chaos soon follows when the Minions accidentally release real monsters into the world. These monsters do not appear to be friendly. 

And they must band together to stop the monster mayhem and save the day before things spiral completely out of control. Now, whether they are chasing fame or fixing their own mess, the Minions are ready for another adventure.
