The biopic Michael’s immense success led to its much-needed sequel getting the green light, and it is already in the works. Meanwhile, Lionsgate film chief Adam Fogelson assured fans that the sequel will be as entertaining as the original and will focus on several unexplored events from Michael Jackson’s life, as well as his music catalogue. But much like the first film, there is already speculation about which part of the music legend’s life will be explored next.
While the producers will not be able to portray any aspects of Jackson’s life and career involving the allegations due to legal reasons, Fogelson revealed that there is still much to cover.

As reported by Variety, Adam Fogelson revealed that the most entertaining part is yet to come in the sequel. He further shared that several events that were not included in the original film will become the focus of the second film. It will also feature several hit songs from Michael Jackson’s music catalogue that were not included in the previous biopic film.
“There are so many other events that happened, even in the time frame of the original movie, that weren’t touched upon, so we’re very, very confident that we’ve got an incredibly entertaining movie that will appeal once again to a global audience as the pieces come together,” he said.

Moreover, as Fogelson revealed, the sequel will also include previously scrapped scenes from the original film. Due to legal issues, several scenes were removed from the biopic Michael during production. As per Fogelson, they already have enough material from those unused scenes to cover nearly 25 to 30 percent of the sequel.
That explains why Fogelson shared that the film might not follow a chronological order. Now, the original movie ended with Michael Jackson during the Victory Tour in 1984 before briefly jumping ahead to show a glimpse of the 1987 'Bad' tour, skipping several major events in between. So, there clearly seems to be a lot more from the previous timeline that is left to be explored.
While people continue talking about the sequel, the biopic film has continued to break records.
Michael biopic set to become the highest grossing music biopic
The Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic Michael achieved massive success soon after arriving in theaters. On its opening day, the film earned $39.5 million, which is the highest opening-day collection of 2026. It also surpassed Oppenheimer’s $33 million opening-day number.

The film has continued to dominate the box office, returning to the top position in its fourth weekend and surpassing The Devil Wears Prada 2. As of now, the biopic has grossed more than $700 million worldwide. If it continues the same success, it could even surpass Bohemian Rhapsody’s worldwide record of $911 million, though that remains to be seen.
