‘Michael’ Returns to Beat ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ With $26M Box Office Record

The King of Pop continues to dominate the domestic box office as the biopic Michael made $26.3 million in its fourth weekend, claiming the No. 1 spot. The film received a major boost after returning to IMAX and other premium theater screens, helping it surpass The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the weekend box office. The biopic had been gaining traction well before its release, with impressive preview earnings as well as a $97 million debut domestically.

And it continues to surprise by reaching new heights of success every week, with the latest not just domestic but also global.

Michael is not slowing down anytime soon

The fashion film starring Meryl Streep, which earned $18 million, made more than $500 million globally. However, with strong $26 million domestically, the biopic movie Michael has successfully beaten the new movies like Obsession, Mortal Kombat II, and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Moreover, the biopic has also been steadily climbing in new success worldwide, achieving an impressive $700 million globally. 

If the film continues its successful run over the next few weeks, it could easily surpass Bohemian Rhapsody to become the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time. The Queen biographical drama starring Rami Malek earned $911 million worldwide. As of now, Michael is already among the highest-grossing musical biopics domestically, having earned $282 million, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody’s $216 million.

The film’s immense success has also led Lionsgate to confirm a sequel after months of uncertainty. Its strong performance in the fourth week clearly shows the fans’ love for the Music legend as well as the massive potential it still holds in the coming weeks. As of now, it has successfully revived the fandom and may have even introduced Michael Jackson to a new generation of fans.

The song pulled in an impressive 6.028 million streams on May 15, 2026. And the same can be said for his other hit songs. Fan-favorite 'Beat It' also climbed to No. 6 worldwide, as audiences continue to revisit the King of Pop’s greatest hits. With both the biopic and Michael Jackson’s music touching new milestones, the fandom is reconnecting with the music legend.
