Sharing on the Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Michael B. Jordan revealed why this new version of The Thomas Crown Affair resonates more personally for him. Reflecting on the Pierce Brosnan version he grew up with, he said how the first two films were just on two white rich guys who stole for fun but "this one’s a bit more personal and the stakes are a lot higher.” At 13 or 14, he admired the Brosnan version: the artistry, style, and visual representation of New York.

His upbringing around art due to his mother gave him an early appreciation for the creative process, allowing him to connect with the film’s aesthetic and ambition on a deeper, more personal level than just entertainment. Expanding further, he shared on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, how his forthcoming movie is specifically a “reimagination” of the classic concept, not just another reboot or a “remake.”

The first film’s success inspired a notable 1999 update, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. This version shifted the target of the crime from cash to a priceless painting, a Monet, and relocated the action to New York City. The film maintained the core theme of the psychological drama and cat-and-mouse game between the thief and the investigator, proving the story's timeless appeal to a new generation.
