Meryl Streep Confirms Her Character Is Drastically Changed in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

Miranda Priestly has never introduced herself twice; the room simply adjusts and prays it got her right the first time. As portrayed by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, the character’s glacial stare, cerulean monologue, and surgical takedowns made misidentification professionally fatal. The audience has also realized, in hindsight, that her 'tyranny' feels like boardroom Darwinism once you consider she had to compete in a world where only the impeccably dressed and ruthlessly efficient survived.
Meryl Streep has added to that ideology as she shares the drastic change that Miranda Priestly will go through in The Devil Wears Prada 2.
As the second part of the 'bible of working women', The Devil Wears Prada 2, takes shape, so is the anticipated image and state of Miranda Priestly, 2 decades later.

Meryl Streep exposes the reinvention of Miranda
As Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep took over Tokyo as part of their promotion of The Devil Wears Prada 2, they provided quite an insightful peek into Miranda Priestly's character development. While advising the younger generation and encouraging them to become the catalysts of change, Streep used Miranda Priestly as an example. She said that while Priestly is seen as an ice-cold and unflexible character, her most impressive quality is to change and adapt, with the help of her ever-so-often clumsy helper.
"And that's what you have to do, is look for the helpers," said Meryl Streep as she persuaded the audience to look for helpers just like Miranda Priestly will in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Even if her four children pay little attention, she hoped Japan’s youth would stay curious, optimistic, and far more receptive to change, much like Miranda Priestly’s evolution.
The Tokyo press stop only sharpened the spectacle, with Meryl Streep in a Chanel Métiers d’Art 2026 ensemble and a custom Schiaparelli suit, while Anne Hathaway turned heads in Valentino and Stella McCartney. As for the promotional tour, which started in Mexico City on March 30, it will move to Seoul, Shanghai, London, and New York after the two stars finish their run in Tokyo.
It may sound surprising at first, but once Miranda’s new challenges come into focus, the shift feels almost inevitable
The challenges Miranda faces in the sequel
In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Miranda Priestly steps into a landscape where print media teeters on the brink, replaced by influencers, algorithms, and the endless scroll of digital culture. Her old-school glamour and editorial omnipotence now collide with a world that values likes over legacy, leaving her to navigate relevance in a business that no longer bends entirely to her will.
The tables have turned with Emily Charlton, once Miranda’s obedient assistant and now the wielder of massive advertising budgets. As fans decide whether the sequel is a necessary evil, Miranda must swallow pride and call in favors from the very person she once ruled over with icy precision. The dynamic is deliciously humiliating and strategic, a high-stakes game of survival in couture heels.
