With the sequel simmering akin to a blockbuster in the making, Streep and Gomez recently sent netizens into an unrecoverable frenzy with a Prada-level tease to share some exciting news with fans. But the question is: what is Gomez doing instead of Hathaway?

In a video shared by Hulu in collaboration with Only Murders in the Building’s official Instagram handle, Meryl Streep and Selena Gomez re-created the iconic The Devil Wears Prada scene where Miranda Priestly critiques Andy Sachs for her clothing choices. Just when Andy was about to respond, Miranda interrupts, saying, “That wasn’t a question.” In their Instagram reel, sitting next to Streep, referring to Only Murders in the Building, Gomez states, “So, you’re coming back for season 5.” 

Streep takes up Andy’s character, responding, “Well, I think that depends on…” but true to her Priestley profile, Gomez barges in, saying, “No, no, that wasn’t a question.” While both excelled with their poker faces, the news rang loud and clear: Streep is officially returning to Only Murders in the Building for season 5, but only those in the building know what devil-icious delight awaits the upcoming installment.

Production for Only Murders in the Building season 5 began in March. But how long is it until the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada?

In July 2024, it was first announced that Disney is developing a The Devil Wears Prada sequel. It was also reported last year that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would reprise their roles. However, so far, no cast members have been officially confirmed. But what is known already is that the Devil will wear Prada for a second time on May 1, 2026. The official release date came amidst Disney’s reshuffles for its theatrical release calendar.

The shuffles saw the pushback of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Likewise, there is also no confirmation about Anne Hathaway’s return to the sequel. During an October 2024 conversation with PEOPLE, Stanley Tucci shed light on the possibilities of reprising his role as art director Nigel. However, the list of confirmed cast members is still up in the air.
