Meghan Markle’s ‘Cookie Queens’ Is About “Modernized Girlhood” Keeping Up the American Tradition

From dealing with legalities and Netflix pacts left and right, Meghan Markle has taken the time to re-immerse herself in the cinematic side of things. Taking to the Sundance Film Festival, Cookie Queens' charm has transcended the documentary format, in Markle's eyes. What may be a time-bound venture, Markle seems to believe, is single-handedly upkeeping American traditions.

Meghan Markle is proving that poster-plaster is not the only thing that makes good Hollywood, but also Girl Scouts who take on the cookie business as if their life depends on it.

Under Archewell Productions' wing, Cookie Queens premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25, 2026. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry both act as executive producers on the documentary helmed by Alysa Nahmias, but to Markle, the task signifies more than a movie credit. Having been a Girl Scout herself, Markle expressed how the documentary channels the sentiment through modern-day lenses.

"It is one of the most powerful and meaningful depictions of something that is an American tradition," Markle said, "from the incredible creative vision of Alysa to show something modernized about the girlhood experience," as per The Hollywood Reporter. Addressing the crowd at the festival, the Duchess expressed that Cookie Queens might just be a badge of patriotism to her.

Cookie Queens follows four young girls between the ages of 5 and 12, who fight tooth and nail to make the most cookie sales during the Girl Scout cookie season. While the documentary encapsulates one of America's most prominent cultural practices, the participants display ambition and entrepreneurship skills that many strive for well into adulthood. Meghan Markle even points out the pressures the Girl Scouts go through being part of the documentary, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Cookie Queens and the Sundance Film Festival, on one hand, may have sparked Markle's nostalgia for the Hollywood side of things.

Meghan Markle tracing back to Hollywood

Not long before Cookie Queens took over Meghan Markle's standards for present-day American traditions, the Duchess tried her hand at acting once more. Joining the cast of Close Personal Friends, Markle made herself known for a short cameo role in September 2025, to have debated results, however. Once the comedy number hits the screens, it will mark Markle's comeback to the scene after 8 whole years.
