Meghan Markle and Kim Kardashian are going to battle it out for a historic piece of Princess Diana’s fashion. Both Markle and Kardashian are huge names in the fashion industry. While the SKIMS founder commands attention with her high-low styling and figure-hugging silhouettes, Markle’s royal polish and modern minimalism have fashion watchers taking notes at every turn. And now, both stars are eyeing an artifact of the ultimate royal style icon, Princess Diana.

An article worth $296,000 belonging to Princess Diana is going up for auction, and sources say Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle are going to be top contenders.

Princess Diana’s iconic “revenge dress” will be up for auction in December. And according to New Idea’s sources, both Meghan Markle and Kim Kardashian are considering placing a bid for it. According to the report, Markle is allegedly insisting on buying the dress, as she sees it as an important artifact of Princess Diana’s legacy, but Prince Harry is hesitant about whether it should even be theirs. Sources also pointed to budget issues that could ultimately block Markle from getting her hands on the revenge dress.

However, the source claimed that Kardashian is “determined to own this dress.”

Apart from Meghan Markle and Kardashian, Salma Hayek and Lady Gaga are also reportedly interested in placing bids for the dress as well. Sotheby's, the place where the dress is currently in the process of being headed for the auction, expects it to sell for up to approximately $2,96,000.

This marks the very first time the dress has been available for public sale since 1997, when Princess Diana originally auctioned it off for charity just months before her tragic passing.

In 1994, Princess Diana stepped out wearing a form-fitting, off-the-shoulder gown at a Vanity Fair gala at London's Serpentine Gallery. This was right after a televised interview of her estranged husband, then-Prince Charles, aired, in which he publicly admitted to being unfaithful during their marriage.  

Princess Diana had reportedly been avoiding wearing that dress for three years because she initially feared it was too revealing and broke royal protocol. Her swapping her planned Valentino gown at the last minute for the black Christina Stambolian dress, paired with bright red nail polish and a striking sapphire choker, was what came to be known as the revenge dress.
