Karl Urban as Captain Connor: The film's antagonist, who returns to Ercell to take revenge for their unresolved history. Back to equate the old scores, he relentlessly hunts for Ercell. His presence fuels the film with intensity and tension.

But what is new in this pirate film? That one element that differentiates it from other pirate films is the female figure.

A fierce female pirate at the center of the storm

Most of the pirate films or series have a male protagonist and antagonist. Often portrayed as a male-dominated field. The Bluff outruns all the notions, with the female lead Ercell as the center of the story. Once a sidekick to Captain Connor, he is now his rival. The one he relentlessly and restlessly hunted down to equate the scores.

The character Ercell is a ruthless pirate who brutally eliminates rivals before she chooses her quiet life. This is unlike the usual female characters that inculcate female traits, avoid hurting a soul, or are portrayed as weak opponents.

Ercell’s character balances the tenderness of motherhood with the ferocity of a seasoned warrior. Every battle she chooses to fight is rooted in determination to protect the people who matter most. Her resolve to confront her rival is driven by a deeper responsibility to safeguard her family, who represent her future.

While pirate epics have long been dominated by swaggering captains and fantasy-led lore, The Bluff shifts the compass. With a formidable female warrior steering the narrative, the film promises the story of resilience, redemption, and reinvention.
