Stephen King’s Carrie has always been a nightmare waiting for the right spark. A bullied teenager, a fanatically religious mother and telekinetic power building beneath years of humiliation already make the 1974 novel one of horror’s most combustible coming-of-age stories.

Mike Flanagan is now stretching that tragedy across eight Prime Video episodes, bringing social-media cruelty and a larger community into Carrie White’s world.

With the series arriving October 7, the central question before prom night begins is simple: who is playing who?

Prime Video has assembled a mix of emerging performers and familiar horror faces for Flanagan’s first television-series adaptation of King’s novel.

Summer H. Howell: Carrie White. Howell leads the series as the isolated teenager whose telekinetic abilities emerge amid relentless bullying. Prime Video says over 1,000 actors read for the role before Howell was selected.

Samantha Sloyan: Margaret White. Sloyan plays Carrie’s fiercely protective and deeply religious mother, whose control has kept her daughter sheltered from much of the outside world.

Siena Agudong: Sue Snell. Agudong steps into the role of Sue, one of Carrie’s classmates and a crucial figure in the moral fallout surrounding the cruelty inflicted upon her.

Alison Thornton: Chris Hargensen. Thornton plays Chris, the classmate whose hostility toward Carrie places her near the center of the escalating conflict surrounding the school and its students.

Joel Oulette: Tommy Ross. Oulette portrays Tommy, Sue’s boyfriend and the student pulled into Carrie’s life as the events leading toward prom begin taking shape.

Amber Midthunder: Miss Desjardin. The Prey star plays a teacher at Carrie’s school, placing Midthunder inside the teenage pressure cooker as humiliation and supernatural danger begin colliding.

Matthew Lillard: Principal Grayle. Lillard plays the school principal, adding another recognizable horror veteran to Flanagan’s ensemble and an authority figure within Carrie’s hostile school environment.

That cast may be approaching a familiar nightmare, but Flanagan already has ambitions extending well past one blood-soaked prom.

Mike Flanagan recently told Collider that his “dream scenario” involves three seasons, describing Carrie as having a three-step arc that could function as a trilogy. Prime Video has greenlit only the first eight-episode season, with the entire run scheduled to arrive October 7. Rue Morgue reports that Flanagan also wants to explore a wider community of women with telekinetic abilities, with other gifted characters entering the story early.

That approach gives this adaptation its own identity within Carrie White’s long screen history. Brian De Palma’s celebrated 1976 Carrie starred Sissy Spacek, while Kimberly Peirce directed the 2013 version with Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie and Julianne Moore as Margaret. A 2002 television movie starring Angela Bettis also adapted King’s novel.

Prime Video calls Flanagan’s version the first series adaptation of Carrie. The filmmaker already knows King’s world through Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, while King himself serves as an executive producer on the new show.
