California Scenario is an emotionally healing and heartwarming story that explores some of life’s most untouched elements. Directed by James Takata, the film explores trauma, survival, and more, all told in a poetic style. Arriving soon, this deeply moving indie feature is the first film granted permission to shoot in the legendary sculptural garden of artist Isamu Noguchi, California Scenario.

And for a story as beautiful as this, the film also boasts a brilliant cast. So, here is a closer look at the characters who will bring this heartfelt love story to life.

The California Scenario has a star-studded cast led by Will Yun Lee (Jacob Hara), Brooklynn Prince (Phoebe), Abby Miller (Laura Acker), and Minnie Mills (Lexi). Yun Lee previously starred in The Wolverine and played Dr. Alex Park in The Good Doctor for seven seasons. He has also appeared in Netflix’s Altered Carbon. 

Many will recognize Miller from the Apple TV+ original series Home Before Dark and The Sinner. Prince is best known for her role in Sean Baker’s film The Florida Project, for which she won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Performer. She has recently starred in Paramount+’s Little Win. The three will be joined by Jes Macallan (Legends of Tomorrow) as Kelly, Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience) as Nancy, Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors) as Renee, James Saito (Always Be My Maybe) as Bill, and Emmy lou Diaz (Jane the Virgin) as Anna.

The story of California Scenario follows the journeys of two single parents, each facing the effects of past trauma. Jacob Hara, played by Will Yun Lee, is a devoted father trying to protect his daughter Lexi when a buried family secret threatens to turn their lives upside down. Meanwhile, Laura Acker, portrayed by Abby Miller, is dealing with life after an abusive marriage while trying to protect her daughter, Phoebe.

Both parents are dealing with their own hurdles in life, and their efforts to heal and support their children form the emotional heart of the story. As their paths cross, the film explores how confronting these wounds can open the door to new connections, much like how it has opened the doors for critical appeal with its release.
