Lee Sung Jin has teased that the film will rely heavily on personal storytelling and complex team dynamics in a recent interview with Men's Health. He also hinted that it will be more about the internal struggles of the mutant characters, not just big action.
“What I'm excited about with Jake's vision for the X-Men—and [Marvel president Kevin Feige and co-president Lou D’Esposito] are fully aligned with his vision—is that he wants to get back to focusing on the characters first. I'm excited, and I think true fans will be excited too. This is the privilege of a lifetime,” he added.
He further said that the reboot will adhere to the political and social themes that have always been at the heart of the X-Men universe. At the same time, it will bring a fresh and modern direction to the team’s MCU debut. The Beef creator also stated that the X-Men reboot will also focus on a character-driven plot.
The chance to help redefine the X-Men for a new generation was something Lee Sung Jin simply could not walk away from.

“I wasn't planning on doing another Marvel thing because I do have a lot I want to explore in my personal projects. When he comes calling with X-Men,” he revealed. “Come on, you drop everything for that. I grew up waking up every Saturday morning and turning on the cartoon. When they came back with X-Men 97, I devoured that.”
Thanks to Sung Jin leading the creative charge, Marvel’s X-Men reboot already feels quite different from a typical superhero blockbuster. The movie seems to be reaching for something more profound and heartfelt than just action. Additionally, Sung Jin’s passion for the franchise and commitment have given long-time fans plenty of reasons to be excited for the long-awaited MCU debut of the mutants.
