Rather than plunging Lillard's career into the abyss, the esteemed director's comments triggered an unexpectedly supportive response from both his fans and his coworkers, who love him. Recently, Lillard told PEOPLE the outpour of love felt like an eulogy.
Witnessing everyone send out their RIP tweets, he described them as a metaphor for the posthumous heartfelt tributes from supporters across the industry.
“It felt like I had died and was in heaven watching everyone send out their RIP tweets. I mean, it was really being a part of your own wake, sort of sitting there living through all the nice things people say after you die," Lillard told PEOPLE.
The actor was initially extremely disappointed upon beind dissed by Taratino because he wished to work with the revered filmmaker in the future. However, he found comfort through the treatment he received from his colleagues, who showed him both kindness and professional respect.
“So it was really, really lovely. It was something that happened that was who cares, really? But I spoke out. I mean, I got caught on a hot mic talking about it, and then it sort of went viral from there," the 56-year-old actor added, while reflecting on his sharp response to the surreal diss that took over the internet.

Meanwhile, Lillard, who is booked and busy with Scream 7, told the outlet that he felt like he passed away because he saw so many people from all walks of life express their love for him. He encountered multiple fans who approached him at the mall, plus major industry players such as George Clooney, Neve Campbell, Kate Siegel, alongside Gunn and Flanagan, who expressed their appreciation for his work while urging him to continue his career.
