House of the Dragon Season 3 is set to take on a more thrilling and much faster pace than Season 2. Matt Smith has also hinted that his character, who spent much of the previous season trapped in hallucinations at Harrenhal, will return to the action in the upcoming season. Unlike the earlier seasons, which largely focused on building toward the conflict before the major event, Season 3 is expected to kick off with the highly anticipated Battle of the Gullet, which is set to change Westeros’ history.
Now, the actor behind Daemon Targaryen has shown some hope about the character while discussing his role in the upcoming season.

Matt Smith’s character, Daemon Targaryen, also known as the Rogue Prince, is expected to take on a much more active role in the upcoming season of House of the Dragons, similar to the one he had in the show's first season. He will reportedly share more scenes with the cast while also showing ruthless action and intensity that define his character. Speaking with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley, Smith opened up about this refreshing change.
“I think both character and actor were sort of happy to be back on home turf,” Smith said.
He further added, “And for me as an actor, it was nice to be able to get to come back and interact with all the brilliant actors that I get to every day now. Thank the God, not just a random goat."
Speaking about Daemon’s arc, Smith said that the character has a strong desire to get back into the action. Based on the trailer, Daemon is also set to return to King’s Landing alongside Rhaenyra Targaryen. This is a significant shift from Season 2, which saw Daemon spending much of his time wrestling with personal struggles at Harrenhal, with many of his interactions limited to visions and even animals such as goats. With the series seemingly teasing major battles from the very beginning of the season, fans have plenty to look forward to.
Until then, viewers can revisit the previous seasons to refresh their memories or even brush up on the High Valyrian language while waiting for the next chapter.
Matt Smith is shocked by High Valyrian special course availability
Matt Smith may have benefited from a special High Valyrian course had he known about it. The actor was surprised to learn that a course dedicated to the fictional language of Westeros is available on the language-learning app Duolingo. The language is even taught by the app’s iconic owl mascot.
"Is it?... Really?" Smith said.

The exchange became even more entertaining as Smith’s fellow cast members found his reaction amusing. Meanwhile, Phoebe Campbell, who appeared to be aware of the course’s existence, confirmed that it was indeed available on the platform. It seems that while the world of Westeros is busy fighting wars and plotting for power, Duolingo is making sure that people outside Westores do not fall behind on their High Valyrian lessons.
