Picking Zendaya’s finest role is no small feat when the competition includes superheroes, tortured teenagers, and tennis players with enough romantic tension to fill a stadium. From her Disney beginnings, Zendaya has swung through blockbuster chaos as Spider-Man’s MJ, plunged into Euphoria’s darkness as Rue Bennett, and turned Challengers into an athletic love triangle. Matt Damon could apparently contemplate the question until Odysseus finally made it home, yet his children had one answer ready: Rue Bennett and would go crazy if Damon would vouch for another role.

For everyone else, Zendaya’s best role is a Sophie’s choice; for Matt Damon’s children, Rue Bennett is the only choice.

Matt Damon dwells on Zendaya's best role

Matt Damon did not need much convincing to crown Zendaya’s best role, although Tom Holland arrived at the answer with considerably more confidence. During Complex’s GOAT Talk, the two actors put their Zendaya picks on the table, with Holland immediately declaring The Drama his winner. Damon, meanwhile, revealed that his household had already made its feelings very clear.

“Well, if my kids, if I don't say Euphoria, my kids are going to go crazy.” Matt Damon did not exactly sound free to choose whatever Zendaya performance pleased him. The actor quickly admitted that his children would revolt if Euphoria did not get the crown, before praising Zendaya across Dune, The Drama, and everything else she has touched.

Holland, however, had no such family diplomacy to perform during Complex's GOAT Talk. He firmly picked The Drama, calling Zendaya “sensational” and making it sound like the easiest decision imaginable. Matt Damon agreed that Zendaya keeps getting better, while Holland recalled texting him immediately after watching the film. Apparently, even among Spider-Man and Jason Bourne royalty, Zendaya debates get serious.

Still, Matt Damon’s kids might have a point, considering Zendaya’s Rue Bennett stands among the most distinctive roles the actress has taken on.

What sets Rue Benett apart from Zendaya's other roles

Zendaya has played superheroes, tennis stars, romantic leads, and science-fiction heroines, but Rue Bennett belongs to an entirely different acting universe. In Euphoria, the actress sheds the polished sheen associated with her Disney Channel beginnings and glamorous public persona. Her exhausted posture, stripped-back appearance, biting narration, and emotional volatility make Rue feel painfully unvarnished.

The real trick is that Zendaya never turns Rue into a tidy lesson about addiction or grief. She makes the teenager contradictory enough to be infuriating one moment and devastating the next, while carrying the series through relapse, recovery, trauma, and brutally intimate narration. That wonderfully messy transformation is precisely why Rue Bennett remains so strikingly different from the other characters Zendaya has inhabited and possibly why Matt Damon's kids loved the role so much.
