As massive practical sets, creature designs, and detailed costumes continue becoming one of Masters of the Universe’s biggest talking points, the film reportedly traveled across several real-world locations to make Eternia feel physically alive instead of digitally manufactured. Set to fully unleash its fantasy chaos this June, director Travis Knight’s live-action He-Man adaptation will be transporting audiences into the mythical world of Eternia, where Prince Adam rises as He-Man to defend Castle Grayskull against Skeletor.

Before the battle for Eternia fully erupts on the big screen, here is every major filming location that helped bring Masters of the Universe to life.

Filming for Masters of the Universe reportedly began across England in early 2025 before the production later expanded into London, United Kingdom, Iceland, and Italy to fully build Eternia’s gigantic fantasy scale. While Canary Wharf brought futuristic metallic city vibes to the movie, the towering Gothic halls of Wells Cathedral seemingly became perfect for Eternia’s ancient royal world. The production additionally turned the eerie underground tunnels of Beer Quarry Caves and the mythology-soaked Wookey Hole into massive fantasy cave systems straight out of He-Man lore.

Beyond England, the movie reportedly pushed deeper into blockbuster-scale fantasy filmmaking through studio work in Borehamwood, home to productions like Star Wars and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Meanwhile, the snow-covered peaks of the Dolomites and Iceland’s volcanic black-sand landscapes helped give Eternia a far larger and more alien-world feel. And unlike many modern fantasy blockbusters drowning in CGI-heavy environments, director Travis Knight has repeatedly stressed using real-world locations and practical production design to make the world feel physically alive.

3 Things 'Masters of the Universe' Is Bringing Back That Modern Fantasy Movies Lost

While Masters of the Universe is now preparing to unleash He-Man’s biggest live-action comeback yet, the franchise itself has already survived decades of animated reboots, cult classics, and fantasy reinventions.

Masters of the Universe is reviving the He-Man legacy once again

Masters of the Universe officially arrives in theaters across the United States and India on June 5, 2026, with select international territories receiving earlier releases beginning June 3. Directed by Travis Knight, the film follows Prince Adam returning to Eternia after 15 years away, only to find the kingdom destroyed under Skeletor’s rule. The reboot stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man alongside Jared Leto, Idris Elba, Camila Mendes, and Alison Brie.

But long before this blockbuster reboot arrived, the He-Man franchise had already built one of fantasy entertainment’s most chaotic timelines. Beginning with the legendary He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon in the ‘80s, the universe later expanded through She-Ra: Princess of Power, the cult-favorite 1987 live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren, multiple animated reboots, and even Netflix continuations like Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Masters of the Universe: Revolution. Now, nearly four decades later, the 2026 adaptation looks ready to push He-Man back into blockbuster fantasy territory once again.

From England’s ancient cathedrals and underground caves to Iceland’s volcanic terrains and Italy’s towering mountains, Masters of the Universe seems determined to make Eternia feel like a real, breathing fantasy kingdom instead of just another CGI backdrop this time.
