There was always something delightfully excessive about Masters of the Universe. From the neon plastic glory of the 1980s toy aisles to the strange cult aura surrounding the 1987 Dolph Lundgren adaptation, He Man has never been a franchise interested in subtlety. Now, Amazon MGM Studios is leaning directly into that legacy with a marketing campaign that feels ripped out of Eternia itself.
Ahead of the film’s theatrical rollout, the studio launched a gigantic drone spectacle over Los Angeles that instantly turned heads across Hollywood without revealing too much about the movie’s larger secrets.

According to reports from Amazon MGM Studios and Guinness World Records, the promotional event featured a staggering 10,000 drones, making it the largest and brightest drone light show ever performed in the United States. The sky above Los Angeles transformed into a glowing fantasy canvas as formations inspired by the film appeared across the night skyline. Director Travis Knight personally received the Guinness certificate tied to the event, while social media clips quickly spread across entertainment circles.
What made the stunt feel particularly fitting for Masters of the Universe was its scale. This has always been a franchise powered by maximalism. The original Filmation cartoon thrived on oversized mythology, thunderous narration, and toyetic fantasy imagery that looked like Frank Frazetta paintings filtered through an arcade machine. The drone event carried that same energy. Modern Hollywood marketing campaigns often chase viral moments, but this one felt strangely aligned with the DNA of He Man itself.
Now, with Travis Knight directing, the franchise finally appears to have found a creative voice that understands both the operatic weirdness and emotional sincerity that made the original mythology endure for decades.
Prince Adam returns to a broken Eternia
The new film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, who returns to Eternia after years away only to discover the planet under the control of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. To reclaim Castle Grayskull and protect the universe, Adam must embrace his destiny as He Man alongside allies like Teela, played by Camila Mendes, and Man At Arms, played by Idris Elba. The supporting cast includes Alison Brie as Evil Lyn, James Purefoy as King Randor, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, and Kristen Wiig voicing Roboto.

Filming reportedly took place in London between January and June 2025, with the movie premiering at the TCL Chinese Theatre on May 18 before its June 5 theatrical release in the United States. The screenplay comes from Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and David Callaham, suggesting a blend of fantasy adventure and modern blockbuster pacing. Yet the central hook remains wonderfully old school. A lost prince returns home, finds his world consumed by darkness, and must become a myth larger than himself.
For longtime fans, the real question is whether this revival can finally give He Man the definitive cinematic adaptation the franchise has chased for nearly forty years. The drone spectacle certainly proved one thing already. Amazon MGM Studios is treating Eternia like an event.
