The new Masters of the Universe gave a nod to its predecessor by featuring a cameo of the original He-Man, Dolph Lundgren. The 1987 movie by filmmaker Gary Goddard was the first film adaptation of the story of Eternia. Prior to the film's release, there was a curiosity to find out if the actor would appear in the upcoming film.
With his cameo confirmed now, the main focus has shifted to the hidden meaning behind his appearance in the new Masters of the Universe.

Dolph Lundgren's cameo in the film was revealed at the Masters of the Universe US premiere, when he was seen giving the Sword of Power to Nicholas Galitzine, his successor. Dolph Lundgren's appearance in the Masters of the Universe reboot represents the passing of the torch from the original He-Man to Prince Adam's new generation.
Lundgren subtly alludes to his reputation as He-Man in his role as a gym patron who gives Adam important advice. "Good Journey," a remark that has become legendary in the franchise, is repeated by Lundgren as his cameo scene comes to an end. In addition to paying homage to Lundgren's past, this cameo serves as a link between the new narrative and the original, guaranteeing that He-Man's heritage will continue to influence and direct the new hero.
However, Lundgren's appearance goes beyond a simple changing-of-the-guard moment. He tells Adam to concentrate and support himself and the people around him instead of worrying about the outward facade. Later on in the story, this message becomes even more important. It also acts as a seal of approval on the new He-Man from the previous one.
But to be a worthy successor of the 1987 movie, Masters of the Universe needs to also make massive numbers at the box office.
The box office hurdle for Masters of the Universe
The 1987 Masters of the Universe only made $17 million against a budget of $22 million, making it an obvious failure. This failure resulted in almost a four-decade delay in getting a reboot. Therefore, the new movie must break this box office curse to keep Hollywood’s Masters of the Universe obsession alive for the big screen.

The new movie is reportedly made on a massive budget of $160 million to $200 million. To become a commercial hit, it needs to make somewhere around $400 million to $600 million. However, this will not be easy as the movie faces steep competition from horror hits like Obsession and Backrooms, and also the newly released Scary Movie 6. The makers can now only hope that this new wave of hype due to Dolph Lundgren’s cameo somehow works in the favor of the movie.
