Who is Marvel's Wonder Man? All you need to know about the show's cast
The Marvel miniseries, which fans have been waiting for, has finally come closer to its release week, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stunning his way out as the main character alongside Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley delivering brilliance. Wonder Man features Abdul-Mateen II in the role of Simon Williams, X Mayo stars as Janelle Jackson, Simon's agent, while Kingsley plays the role of Trevor Slattery.
Kingsley makes a highly anticipated return to the MCU with this series, following his first appearance in Iron Man 3 (2013) and later on in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). Zlatko Burić is Von Kovak, a famous and reclusive director. Demetrius Grosse plays Eric Williams or Grim Reaper, and Shola Adewusi takes on the role of Martha Williams: Simon and Eric's mother.
The rest of the cast includes Béchir Sylvain, Olivia Thirlby, Byron Bowers, Joe Pantoliano, and Josh Gad. Additionally, Ed Harris, Juliette Ortega, Lauren Glazier, Manny McCord, Simon Templeman, Dane Larsen, Phumzile Sitole, Jere Burns, Charlotte Ross, and Torrey Vogel round out the cast in yet undisclosed roles to complete the adventures of an actor-turned-superhero in this unique Marvel addition.
With a stellar cast and a never-before-seen storyline that potentially leads up to Avengers: Doomsday, thanks to Marvel's unparalleled ability to interconnect fan-favorite characters, Wonder Man might eat up average superhero productions for breakfast.
What is Wonder Man about? Inside Marvel's ambitiously unique plot
Wonder Man pivots on Simon Williams, who aspires to become a Hollywood actor while secretly being a superhero, which creates a dual identity that makes this show one of Marvel's most meta ideas ever. Sir Ben Kingsley plays Trevor Slattery, who appears as the clumsy actor auditioning for a meta Hollywood film in the plot.
The show begins when Simon discovers that a famous director plans to remake the Wonder Man film through an audition process, which will test his ability to achieve his Hollywood ambitions while using his actual superpowers. Meanwhile, Slattery had previously appeared under the guise of Aldrich Killian, later abducted by Xu Wenwu's Ten Rings organization.
In this series, Slattery comes back to Hollywood to secure a second chance as an actor and befriends Simon, soon realizing he could exploit this superhero. Their journey combines elements of superhero storytelling with a mockumentary-style exploration of how the entertainment industry operates.
