Spider-Man: Brand New Day has landed in hot water amid c********** over its alleged use of generative artificial intelligence. The AI debate has continued to grow louder in Hollywood, dragging some major films into the conversation. Just days after similar chatter surrounding Supergirl, Tom Holland’s blockbuster Spider-Man movie has come under scrutiny.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film has already raked in billions at the box office. However, the movie has come under fire after reports alleged that AI was used in creating one of its concept artworks.

Did Marvel Studios use AI for Spider-Man: Brand New Day ?

Following the film’s major box-office success, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day art book was released, featuring a collection of concept art from the movie. However, one piece, “Big City, Little Spider,” created by artist Scott McInnes, garnered attention after fans alleged that generative AI was used in its creation. While there has been no official confirmation of the claims, many have pointed to what they believe are telltale signs of AI-generated imagery.

One of the most noticeable details is the warping and appearance of bizarre objects throughout the image. A strange yellow object can be seen near a taxi, while two other taxis appear to be merging into each other. The fire escape stairway on a building also appears distorted, according to The Direct. Several keen-eyed viewers were quick to point out these issues, which are claimed to be an AI glitch.

The c********** over the art book worth $50 has understandably raised eyebrows. McInnes, who created the piece, is also a household name in the industry whose credits include Morbius, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Guardians of the Galaxy, Mercy, Bridgerton, Wonka, Andor, BarbieGladiator II, and Masters of the Universe. Whether there is any truth to the allegations remains unclear.

However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is certainly not the first major project in recent weeks to find itself caught up in Hollywood’s growing AI debate.

Supergirl sparked c********** over alleged use of generative AI

A featurette for Supergirl recently garnered traction on YouTube after fans alleged that it featured the use of generative AI. The footage in question showed director Craig Gillespie’s team using what appeared to be AI-generated concept art of Jason Momoa’s Lobo. Fans were quick to call out the issue. Following the c*********, the featurette was reportedly removed from YouTube

The alleged use of AI also appears to clash with the previous comments made by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and DC Comics head Jim Lee at New York Comic-Con 2025, where they said DC would never use AI for storytelling. AI has clearly entered the entertainment industry and Hollywood, including major projects such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Supergirl. Whether the technology can be used responsibly without causing harm to the artists and the creative process remains one of the biggest debates.
