Odessa A’zion has easily been one of the buzziest and busiest names of 2025. Already known for Hellraiser, she appeared in Until Dawn, HBO’s I Love LA, Am I OK?, and Pools, winning over fans with her screen presence. She even auditioned for Euphoria, and while she did not land a role on the hit series, her auditions made a strong impression on the casting director.

And it may have ultimately led the actress to get a chance to audition for a role in one of the biggest projects of her career, Marty Supreme. As the film continues to reach new heights, so does Odessa A’zion, whose unconventional audition for Marty Supreme is gaining traction for the right reason.

Odessa A’zion was shooting in Budapest when she had to send a self-taped audition for Marty Supreme. While on location, she found an old phone booth and decided to use it to record a self-tape audition for the film. The scene was of her character, Rachel Mizler, negotiating inside a 1950s-era phone booth with the owner of a dog that Marty is holding for ransom.

A’zion has since recalled that the phone booth had a really weird angle, and the space was dirty, messy, and visually imperfect. But those flaws helped her tap into the character. A24  just dropped the clip of her audition on X.

"It wasn’t pretty: It was dirty and messy and felt really right for the character," she shared with USA Today.

At the time, she had been sending out self-taped auditions consistently, hoping for a breakthrough role. And things changed when she began taking bolder risks with the auditions, such as this one. This role even earned her the first Screen Actors Guild Award nomination in the Supporting Female category.

While Odessa A’zion’s SAG nomination is here, Timothée Chalamet made history with his Golden Globes win.

Timothée Chalamet makes a splash at Golden Globes

Actor Timothée Chalamet leads the film in the title role, showcasing nothing but a powerful performance. The actor won Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globes for Marty Supreme, and this was his first Golden Globe win, making him also the youngest actor to have won a Globe. The film even bagged him a Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor.

Marty Supreme tells the story of a gifted yet impoverished table tennis hustler in 1950s New York. The film is loosely inspired by the life of real-life ping-pong hustler Marty Reisman and focuses on ambition, survival, and raw talent in a competitive underground scene.

Apart from Timothée Chalamet's Golden Globe win, the film also earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Screenplay. For SAG, the film has got two more nominations, except A'zion's: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Chalamet) and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Indeed with more to come in, the film is set to go down in history as one beloved film.
