Creator Seth MacFarlane voiced the living toy in both live-action Ted and Ted 2 theatrical features alongside Mark Wahlberg. During a recent appearance on a YouTube stream with N3on, in the episode titled N3on Survives Mark Wahlberg's 4 AM Morning Routine, Wahlberg addressed the possibility of Ted 3 while talking to the streamer.
“You know, Seth McFarland does Family Guy and all that stuff. He's the creator of Ted. So, we may come back with a third. Yes, we may come back,” Wahlberg revealed. The original 2012 Ted film follows John Bennett, whose childhood wish brings his teddy bear to life, creating lifelong, m********-fueled chaos. In Ted 2, the duo fights a legal battle to prove Ted is legally human so he can adopt a baby.

This major update arrives over ten years after the second film hit cinema screens across the globe. Wahlberg’s comments confirm that the creative team actively considers bringing the core storyline back to life. He also said something about the upcoming animated release.
"You know what we are doing right now.. we are doing the Ted: The Animated Series," Wahlberg said during the appearance on N3on.
Understanding where the story goes next requires looking at the upcoming television project.
What story will Ted: The Animated series follow?
Ted: The Animated Series is officially scheduled for a late 2026 release window on Peacock. Production pivoted to an animated format after the live-action prequel wrapped its second season in March 2026. This creative shift helps bypass high CGI costs while reuniting the original movie cast. The narrative takes place 12 years after Ted 2, acting as a direct sequel to the films.
John Bennett and Ted now live as suburban neighbors navigating dead-end jobs, marriage, and adult parenting struggles. The animated show retains the same R-rated tone as the original movies. Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried return to voice their original main characters alongside Jessica Barth. Showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh lead the creative direction under MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door Productions.
