Mark Ruffalo has been playing Bruce Banner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. He was a key member of the Avengers and starred in films such as Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Even though he is the longest-serving actor to play the character, Hulk has never gotten his own standalone MCU movie under Ruffalo. However, fans have kept speculating about the possibility of a solo Hulk project. 

The recent comment from Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton has once again reignited hopes for a standalone Hulk movie. 

Mark Ruffalo’s hopes of finally getting a solo Hulk movie have been given a new lease of life. This happened Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that the actor is still actively pitching ideas for a solo Bruce Banner film. Ruffalo, who has played the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, is set to reprise the role in Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man sequel, leading to fan speculation that Marvel might finally give the Green Goliath his long-awaited solo outing. 

“Mark has a few pitches. They are pretty good," Cretton said speaking to Variety, as per Comic Basics, praising Ruffalo's ideas.

Comic Basics further reported that Cretton said that the actor has come up with a few good story ideas. He has also further suggested that he has not abandoned hopes of making Banner’s solo journey happen in theaters someday. For context, Hulk has headlined two solo movies before Mark Ruffalo took over the role. They were Hulk starring Eric Bana and The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton.

Meanwhile, Ruffalo's return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also sparked speculation over Hulk's new appearance. 

A footage from Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also prompted discussion about the Hulk’s weird grey appearance. While Marvel Studios has yet to clarify the reason for the change, many fans speculate that it could be a reference to the introduction of Joe Fixit, the Grey Hulk persona from Marvel Comics, or perhaps a representation of Bruce Banner’s psychological struggles, including trauma, inner conflict, or even mind control. Mark Ruffalo is confirmed to return for the movie, and speculation continues to grow as to what the color change could mean for the character’s future in the MCU. 

While no official confirmation has been made that Marvel Studios will proceed with a standalone Hulk movie, Ruffalo's continued efforts suggest the concept is still alive behind the scenes. His return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, along with the speculation about the character’s grey appearance, has only added fuel to the fire. Fans will just have to wait and see if the next chapter of Bruce Banner’s MCU story finally includes the solo adventure many have been waiting years for.
